Director, Human Resources
The Director, Human Resources is responsible for the management of human resources operations of the Foundation requiring exercising independent judgment, discretion, and the highest level of confidentiality. Directs, plans, evaluates, develops, and coordinates the HR policies, operations, programs, and activities, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance and implementation of the organization’s mission. Areas of leadership include compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, performance management, culture, wellness, and employee relations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans for, develops, and directs basic operating functions of a complete HR department, including employee and staff relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, HR systems, reporting and management of processes throughout the entire employment life cycle for Foundation and University staff. Develops departmental goals and objectives in support of the mission and goals of the Foundation. Recommends and ensures best practices in all functions of the HR Department.
- Manages department personnel including hiring, training, creating, and maintaining standards, and staff development. Provides direct management, support and resources for staff leads, including forming & re-enforcing culture and values. Accountable for ensuring clear definition of roles, communication of strategic and operational plans, results-oriented operations, and performance management in areas of responsibility. Establishes and manages the HR budget, authorizing departmental expenditures.
- Responsible for managing all systems, processes, practices, services, and policies in area of responsibility. Determines and recommends organization-wide employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship resulting in a high level of employee morale. Identify trends that could affect organizational objectives and/or operational resources. Interprets applicable laws and policies and advises management and employees accordingly.
- Directs UIF’s performance evaluation process. Provides advice and counsel to managers facing staff performance issues. Consults with in-house legal counsel as appropriate.
- Serves on the leadership team and participates in various committees, enterprise-wide projects, and external professional organizations. Acts as coach and mentor.
- Administers, monitors, and ensures compliance with all appropriate federal and state laws and regulations, civil service and union contract rules and regulations, as well as Foundation and University policies, including reporting of non-Foundation activities to identify real or potential conflicts of interest. Provides advice and interpretation of policies and procedures to employees, managers, and leadership. Serves as day-to-day resource for interpretation of HR laws, regulations, and policies as they relate to issues and/or problem resolution for employees and supervisors.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and twelve years of progressive human resources experience, including managing most aspects of traditional HR functions.
- Proven thorough understanding and practical application of HR theories, principles, and employment-related laws.
- Proven ability to work independently with people at all levels of organizations, including an independent Board of Directors.
- Experience being a personal and organizational caretaker of confidential/sensitive information.
- Proven ability to plan and multi-task in a very well-organized fashion in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and highly developed customer service skills.
- Proven ability to lead in, and to work in, a team environment.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to use excellent judgment when applying policies in order to achieve desirable outcomes in a complex multi-layered organization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- SHRM-SCP preferred.
