Primary Purpose

Implements the Community School strategy along with school administration, families and community based on the four pillars of Community Schools to increase engagement, improve student achievement and build a healthier, more resilient community.

Essential Duties

  • In partnership with the school, lead the community resource and needs assessment process to identify gaps in service for students, family and community members;
  • Support the planning, development and implementation of the Community Schools Action Plan based on the data collected in collaboration with school leaders, families and other key stakeholders
  • Coordinate and/or conduct programming and resources and ensure it aligns with the following approaches:

○ Trauma-informed,

○ Family-centered,

○ Culturally-appropriate and grounded in the Nā Hopena Aʻo framework, and

○ Strengths-based approach.

  • Cultivate and strengthen partnerships with school, student, family and community to meet the critical needs and support student achievement;
  • Maintain and update agreements including outcome measurements for all partners and programs and;
  • Facilitate the Advisory Board or Community School Leadership Team meetings and participate as a member of the School Community Council and other relevant partnerships/groups/teams;
  • Collect required data and coordinate the timely submission of reports;
  • Participate in professional development and capacity-building opportunities provided by the Hawaiʻi Afterschool Alliance and Ceeds of Peace and other partners.

Work Hours

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or as otherwise determined by the supervisor;
  • Position requires regular and predictable attendance;
  • Some events on evenings or weekends at various times.

Working Conditions

  • Office setting;
  • Travel in personal vehicle to and from program sites;
  • Travel to the neighbor islands is required;
  • Travel to the U.S. continent may be required.

Equipment Use

Personal vehicle, computer and/or laptop, webcam, printer, scanner, copier, fax machine, office and/or work cell phone/Bluetooth, paper cutter, nametag maker, speaker system, video and camera equipment, and microwave.

Mental, Physical and Communication Demands:

Mental:

  • Consistent adherence to the practice of PIDF’s five core values that are used as a guiding force in the success of all of its programs;
  • Be keenly aware of and attentive to school and community partners and members;
  • Must have a mindset to continuously improve practices and processes to best utilize resources and relationships;
  • Must analyze and problem solve issues;
  • Must be organized and able to multi-task and prioritize;
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills.

Physical:

  • Requires lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds on a regular basis;
  • Must be able to sit and work on floor; kneel and bend;

Communication:

  • Must exhibit courteous and professional demeanor towards program participants, staff and administration via verbal, written, physical, and electronic correspondence;
  • Requires good oral and written communication skills;
  • Must be able to communicate with various stakeholders and facilitate diverse and difficult conversations and meetings;
  • Must feel comfortable conducting workshops in front of a large audiences;
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field;
  • At least two (2) years of experience in community organizing, community development, youth development or leadership training;
  • Working knowledge of personal computer software applications such as Zoom, Word, Excel and Google Suite;
  • Must have access to a vehicle, have a valid driver's license, a safe and responsible driving record, and current no-fault auto insurance, with at least the $100K in bodily collision per person and $25K in property damage liability.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience in coordinating comprehensive program activities in a school or institutional setting;
  • Project management experience including the ability to create, communicate, maintain and align detailed work plans.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Hawai‘i DOE public school system AND the respective community;
  • Experience in collaborative leadership practices, including co-designing action plans or strategies with other stakeholders;
  • Experience facilitating and conducting meetings/workshops with multiple stakeholders.
