TCG has offered hundreds of events and programs, film screenings, and informational travel with top thought leaders to thousands of audience participants. TCG is a membership-based organization.
The Executive Director (ED) will help oversee staff operations for The Common Good to produce quality programs, execute its mission, and expand the audience and membership.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Management - Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee work of the organization including, execute and produce our events and projects around the calendar year (at least 12-18 per year in-person or on Zoom), including our annual Awards event, the TCG Forum, the TCG National Survey on Division, America’s Report Card, Immigration Story Initiative, and other projects and initiatives, etc.;
- Oversee research and write materials for use in producing events and projects. Set up and track assignments & tasks for Program Managers and interns and the projects the ED takes on him/herself.
- Actively engage and energize The Common Good staff, interns and volunteers.
- Grow donations and memberships - developing growth and retention of members and donors, with a view to generating greater revenue and creating community. Ability to build donor base and fundraising essential.
- Oversee messaging and communications strategy and implementation from web presence and email to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand and message; and help develop timelines and resources needed to achieve the goals. Ability to communicate effectively on news platforms and sources essential.
- Maintain and build new partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with leaders in New York, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles.
- Oversee efficient information and office management, update or create training manuals and policies for staff and interns, help oversee expenses and revenues and keep the organization and its programs on budget.
- We are seeking a candidate who is action-oriented, entrepreneurial and self-directed, adaptable, mission-driven, with high integrity, a positive attitude, a relatable personality, and a willingness to roll-up sleeves and be very hands-on.
Required Skills:
- Very knowledgeable about and demonstrated interest in politics, current events, public policy, and international affairs from authoritative sources essential.
- Bachelors or Masters required with at least 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong communicator, both in writing and orally. Strong research and writing ability.
- Experience in managing a team, setting and achieving strategic objectives, and staying on budget.
- Commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
- Marketing, communications, or public relations experience is a plus.
- Some evenings (usually one per month) will be required to oversee programs that take place after regular work hours.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Docs, spreadsheets, and presentations, and email programs like Auxilia, Constant Contact, Eventbrite, MembershipWorks, Quickbooks, or the website platform Squarespace are a big plus. Knowledge of social media platforms and strategies is a big plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $150,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule: Monday to Friday with in-person work from the office Tuesday-Thursday. Monday and Friday can be work from home.

- Paid sick days, personal time off, holidays off, and vacation time that begins to accrue after 3 months
Experience:
- major report writing or journalism: 2 years (Preferred)
- international affairs, government, political science,: 1 year (Preferred)
- public policy, politics, elections or campaigns: 2 years (Preferred)
Work Location: Airy office headquarters in the Financial District of NYC, close to major transportation hubs.
